Hi, I’m Elizabeth Allen.

Baltimore Therapist, Elizabeth Allen

Elizabeth Allen, she/her

Art Therapist and Mental Health Counselor

I’m a licensed art therapist and counselor in Baltimore.

As a lifelong creative, I’ve often found myself turning to creative outlets to express myself, process my feelings, and just simply let it out- no matter what was going on in my life. I always felt emotions deeply, and like many other “deep feelers” needed a space to just be, and to not be judged or dismissed.

I knew how powerful art was for me, and wanted to be able to provide that for others. That’s why I decided to pursue a career in art therapy. I completed my education in art therapy, and that path eventually led me here.

As a person living with and trying to navigate chronic illness, I’ve also learned how important it is for chronic illness warriors to have a space where they feel truly seen, understood, and empowered. That’s what I strive to create in my practice. Through therapy, we can explore your experiences more deeply and better understand everything you’re feeling.

Therapy with Elizabeth

  • I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Our work together will be collaborative and tailored to your needs. I integrate talk therapy, EMDR, art therapy, parts work, journaling, and mindfulness to support emotional insight, healing, and lasting change. Each of these techniques holds different benefits for different people, and together we’ll find the right combination for you.

My work is grounded in a trauma-informed perspective, meaning that I strive to understand and consider the presence of trauma in the ways I approach every client. I find value in focusing on clients’ strengths, and creating a space for empowerment and encouragement).

I work with clients experiencing perfectionism, people pleasing, anxiety, chronic illness, trauma/medical trauma, and who may identify as highly sensitive.

  • My clinical experience includes working with children, teens, young adults, and adults facing anxiety, depression, trauma, and chronic illness. I have experience working in a variety of settings, including hospitals, outpatient rehabilitation, schools, and community-based. I find that my medical art therapy background lends itself particularly well to supporting teens and adults with chronic illness and medical trauma, as I’m quite familiar with the medical/hospital setting that so many of us have to navigate.

  • Sessions with me may include empowerment, creativity, growth, metaphor, collaboration, and humor and laughter. I show up authentically in the therapy space based on my own experience as a perfectionist, deep feeler, and person with chronic illness. I am a “relational” therapist, meaning I am not a blank slate, but rather a real person who brings real emotions, and will build a real therapeutic relationship with each client I meet.

  • I am deeply committed to anti-oppressive, social justice-oriented care and strive to create an affirming space for LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and neurodivergent clients.

Get to know me better…

  • I have lived in Baltimore for about 4 years, but grew up in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

  • I’m a lover of all things art- Whether I’m making something myself or enjoying the art of others (including visual arts, theater, music, and more), this is a big part of who I am.

  • I’m an avid reader and very attached to my emotional support kindle, but love to visit bookstores as well.

  • My dog Daisy is truly my fur baby, and you might even see her stop by during a virtual session.

  • My guilty pleasure is reality tv- I love it all!

  • I love to travel internationally & locally- especially to the beach.
